     I graduated from LaPorte High School, Southwestern University and the University of Texas Law School.  I was sworn in as a lawyer for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office in December, 1980 and tried my first jury trial beginning my second day on the job. 

​     I spent my entire career in Texas courtrooms as a trial lawyer and judge.  I tried approximately 75 criminal cases in eight years, including the defense of a capital murder case, and was board certified in criminal law in 1988.  That same year I switched dockets and came to Houston to work at a large insurance defense firm and began handling and trying personal injury cases. During the next 20 years I tried approximately 75 civil jury trials in Dallas, Ellis, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Orange, Brazoria, Bexar and Taylor Counties.  Between 1993 and 2008 I worked primarily on the plaintiffs' side of the docket.

​     I was board certified in personal injury trial law in 1993, was AV rated as a lawyer, and was elected as an Advocate in ABOTA in 2009.   My experience as a lawyer for both plaintiffs and defendants included mediating and settling hundreds of cases. 

​     I was elected to the 11th District Court in 2008 and reelected in 2012.  Beginning in 2009, first as the designated Harris County pretrial court and later as an MDL court, I was charged with handling all pretrial matters for nearly 10,000 Hurricane Ike cases throughout Texas.  As a civil district judge for eight years I presided over and tried dozens of cases involving commercial contracts and torts, employment, personal injury, real estate, debt collection, and property tax appeals. 

​     I retired from the bench in 2016 and started my mediation practice.
